This page provides all the information you need to know after receiving your NAIS certificate. It also details the various types of support and adjustments available to you. You can find our contact details for Learning Support Services here.

Your NAIS certificate

Your NAIS certificate outlines the support measures that have been agreed and recommended. If you feel that any support is missing, please contact your educational support coordinator or email pedstod@mau.se.

What to do when you receive your certificate

  • Download your NAIS certificate. Read the contents carefully.
  • Show your certificate to the course coordinator. You can also email your certificate.
  • Talk to your lecturers and examiners about the recommended support measures.

Students at the Faculty of Technology and Society

If you are a student at this faculty, please place your NAIS certificate in the 'NAIS-besked' postbox on the ground floor of Niagara. Alternatively, you can email it to tspedstod@mau.se. Talk to your teachers about the support measures recommended on your certificate.

Talking books, speech synthesisers and spell-checking programmes

There are support programmes to help with your studies, such as text-to-speech software that reads text aloud and spell-checking programmes. If you have a reading disability, you can access course materials in the form of audiobooks via the Legimus platform. You can book an appointment with the library to set up a Legimus account.

Instructions on how to use these programmes are available on the library’s website.

Standard support

The support you receive with your NAIS certificate is usually standard. However, if you require additional or alternative support, please contact your Learning Support Coordinator or email pedstod@mau.se. Standard support includes the following:

Note-taker

A note-taker is a fellow student who takes notes during lectures and shares them with you. It is your responsibility to find a suitable note-taker. You must attend lectures in person to receive the notes.

If you have any questions about note-takers, please email Petter Rásmusson at petter.rasmusson@mau.se.

How do I find a note-taker?

There is a note-taker module in Canvas where you can find one. If this is missing, your lecturer needs to set it up. In that case, please send this link to your lecturer:

The student acting as your note-taker will receive a fee for their work. You will need to forward this link to them so they can register.

Audio and video recording

If your Nais notification includes the recommendation 'Audio and video recording for personal use', you are permitted to record lectures.

To borrow a voice recorder or smart pen, please contact your learning support coordinator or email pedstod@mau.se.

Guidelines for recording

  • Inform the lecturer well in advance that you will be recording the lecture. You will also need to show the lecturer that this support is listed in your NAIS certificate.
  • The recordings are for your own use only. You must not share them with anyone or post them online.
  • Store the recordings securely. Once the course is complete, delete the recordings.
  • The recordings may only be used for study purposes.
  • Stop recording as soon as the lecture ends.

Support during exams

Support that may be recommended for in-hall exams includes extra time, an adapted seating arrangement and the option to take the exam on a computer.

  • You must register yourself and your support requirements in Ladok during the registration period. Registration opens 21 days before the exam date and closes 7 days before the exam. If you encounter any problems with your registration, please email tentamen@mau.se before the deadline.
  • If you have been granted the 'computer as an aid' support measure and have registered for it, the following programmes are available to help you: the speech synthesis programme 'TorTalk' and the spell-checking programmes 'StavaRex' and 'SpellRight'. Headphones are also provided with the computer.

Exams

Extended time for home exams or assignments

Does your NAIS certificate state that you are eligible for 'extended time for home exams or assignments'?

If so, you should contact the examiner or lecturer at the start of the course or at least two weeks before the examination. They will decide whether extra time is possible and how much you can be granted.

The recommendation 'Lecture materials in advance' means that you will have the opportunity to access materials, such as PowerPoint presentations, before the lecture.

In some courses, you will need to show your NAIS certificate to your lecturer and ask them if you can access the materials. In other cases, the materials are already available to all students.

Mentor and teaching support

In addition to the standard support, you can apply for other types of support, such as mentoring and additional teaching support. If you require any of these, please contact your Learning Support Coordinator or email pedstod@mau.se.

Mentor

A mentor can help you organise and plan your studies. Mentors are typically experienced students. You can receive mentoring support for a maximum of two terms.

A drop-in mentor is suitable for students who are waiting to be assigned a mentor, or who simply need support from time to time. You can turn to the drop-in mentor for help with planning your studies or guidance on other support services.

Extra tutoring

Extra tutoring involves receiving support from your supervisor while you are writing an essay, report or dissertation.

This support is only available while you are enrolled on the course for which the piece of work is intended. Support can only be provided for each piece of written work once.

Additional teaching support

In some cases, it is possible to receive additional teaching support. This may involve the teacher helping to explain a course module, for example.

Support can amount to a maximum of seven hours per 30 credits. Support can only be granted if you are enrolled on the relevant course, and it can only be provided once per course.

Do you need a recovery room? If so, contact Buildings and Services at Malmö University and show them your NAIS certificate. They are located on the ground floor of each building.

Internships and studying abroad

Support during internships

If you require any adjustments for your internship, please contact your course staff well in advance. You can also contact your learning support coordinator if necessary.

Support during your studies abroad

The following support is available when studying or undertaking an internship abroad:

  • Support with the application process.
  • Learning support for exchange programmes.
  • Additional grant funding for exchange programmes or internships through Erasmus+.
