Standard support

Usually the support you receive in your NAIS certificate to begin with is a standard level of support. However, if you require additional or alternative support, please contact your Learning Support Coordinator or email pedstod@mau.se. Standard support includes the following:

Note-taking support

Note-taking support involves a fellow student who takes notes during lectures and shares them with you. It is your responsibility to find a suitable note-taker. You must attend lectures in person to receive the notes.

How do I find a note-taker?

There is a note-taking support module in Canvas where you can find a note-taker. If the module is missing, your lecturer needs to add it. In that case, please send this link to your lecturer:

The student acting as your note-taker will receive compensation for their work. You will need to forward this link to them so they can register:

Register as a note-taker (for note-takers)

If you have any questions about note-takers, please email Petter Rasmusson at petter.rasmusson@mau.se.

Audio and video recording

If your NAIS certificate includes the recommendation 'Audio and video recording for personal use', you are permitted to record lectures.

To borrow a voice recorder or smart pen, please contact your Learning Support Coordinator or email pedstod@mau.se.

Guidelines for recording

  • Inform the lecturer well in advance that you will be recording the lecture. You will also need to show the lecturer that this support is listed in your NAIS certificate.
  • The recordings are for your own use only. You must not share them with anyone or post them online.
  • Store the recordings securely. Once the course is complete, delete the recordings.
  • The recordings may only be used for study purposes.
  • Stop recording as soon as the lecture ends.

Support during exams

Support that may be recommended for exams includes extra time, sitting in a smaller group, and the option to take the exam on a computer.

  • You must register yourself and your support requirements in Ladok during the registration period. Registration opens 21 days before the exam date and closes 7 days before the exam. If you encounter any problems with your registration, please email tentamen@mau.se before the deadline.
  • If you have been granted the 'computer as an aid' support measure and have registered for it Ladok, the following programmes are available to help you: the speech synthesis programme 'TorTalk' and the spell-checking programmes 'StavaRex' and 'SpellRight'. Headphones are also provided with the computer.

Exams

Extended time for home exams or assignments

Does your NAIS certificate state that you are eligible for 'extended time for home exams or assignments'?

If so, you should contact the examiner or lecturer at the start of the course or at least two weeks before the examination. They will decide whether extra time is possible and how much extra time you can be granted.

The recommendation 'lecture materials in advance' means that you have the possibility to access materials, such as PowerPoint presentations, before classes.

In some courses, you will need to show your NAIS certificate to your lecturer and ask them if you can access the materials. In other cases, the materials are already available to all students.

Mentor, extra supervision and extra teaching support

In addition to the standard support, you can apply for other types of support, such as a mentor, extra supervision and additional teaching support. If you require any of these, please contact your Learning Support Coordinator or email pedstod@mau.se.

Mentor

A mentor can help you organising and planning within your studies. Mentors are typically experienced students. You can receive mentoring support for a maximum of two terms.

Drop-in mentor is avaible for students who are waiting to be assigned a mentor, or who simply need support from time to time. You can turn to the drop-in mentor for help with planning your studies or guidance on other support services.

Drop-in mentor

Extra supervision

Extra supervision involves receiving support from your supervisor while you are writing a dissertation or thesis.

This support is only available while you are enrolled on the dissertation/thesis course. Support can only be provided once for each dissertation/thesis.

Extra teaching support

In some cases, it is possible to receive extra teaching support. This may involve the teacher helping to explain an assignment or part of a course, for example.

Support can amount to a maximum of seven hours per 30 credits. Support can only be granted if you are enrolled on the relevant course, and it can only be provided once per course.

Do you need to use a resting room? If so, contact the reception which are located on the ground floor of each building.

Internships and studying abroad

Support during internships

If you require any adjustments for your internship, please contact your course staff well in advance. You can also contact your Learning Support Coordinator if necessary.

Support during studies abroad

The following support is available when studying or undertaking an internship abroad:

  • Support with the application process.
  • Learning support for exchange programmes.
  • Additional grant funding for exchange programmes or internships through Erasmus+.

If you become too ill to study, you can apply for a leave of absence. Other reasons for taking a leave of absence include caring for children, compulsory military service and student union duties.

If you fall ill, you must see a doctor and obtain a medical certificate. Submit this to the study administrator in your department and notify the Learning Support Service.
