Film screening and discussion with researchers and the director

When a small group of teenagers gather outside the Swedish Parliament with handwritten placards demanding climate action, they ignite the spark that will lead to one of the largest youth movements of modern times. This documentary is a portrait of a generation forced to come to terms with the ruthlessness of politics at an early age. The fight for the climate and for justice runs parallel to a life that ought to be about friendship, play and dreams for the future, but which is time and again derailed by the failures of the adult world. The result is an intimate and poignant portrayal of what happens when moral responsibility is placed in the hands of those who are still finding their place in the world. As We Burn is the story of the collective that launched the youth-led climate movement – Fridays for Future. The film raises questions about responsibility, influence and the future: Who has the power to bring about change? What are the consequences of taking a stand? And what does it mean to be an active citizen in the midst of a global crisis? As We Burn had its Swedish cinema premiere on 15 May 2026.
