Join a unique book club this autumn and meet author Ia Genberg

Mau Reads is a unique book club for all students at Malmö University and especially international students since this book club is in English. This autumn, we will read The Details, an award-winning novel and international bestseller.

The book club offers you a unique opportunity to meet other students at the university and get into the student life in Malmö. It also gives you a wonderful reading experience and an opportunity to discuss important themes in the book, such as time, friendship and love.

The students who participate in the book club will be divided into smaller groups and meet three times during the autumn at Orkanen library. Swedish fika will be offered. The book club is optional and is held outside of regular class time.

How it works

The last day to register for the book club is Tuesday 3 September. Participants will meet on three occasions during the autumn, on 12 September at 17.15 – 18 for a kick-off and to meet the others in the group, and on 26 September and 10 October at 17.15 – 18.15 to discuss various issues and themes in the book. The book club ends with an author’s talk on 21 October at 17.15 – 18.30, when the author Ia Genberg visits us digitally. There will be Swedish fika at all meetings.

The book club has a limited number of places – first come, first served.

About the author and the book

Ia Genberg is a Swedish journalist and author. She has published four novels and a collection of short stories. In 2022, Genberg was awarded the August Prize for her fourth book The Details. The book received several awards, has been translated into several languages ​​and was an international success. It was also nominated for the International Booker Prize 2024.

The Details is a novel with four portraits of people that the author has loved and been changed by. The story shows the presence of time in a person, how everything we have been through remains and continues in us. It is also about love and friendship as the hub in a person's life.

"By focusing on the condensations of the moments, the story reaches beyond the clichés and the locking of chronology", said the motivation for Aftonbladet's literature prize.
