Let’s co-create the future of emergency evacuation

Current evacuation systems are built around a “one-size-fits-all” approach, but emergencies don’t affect everyone the same way. We believe the best solutions come from collaboration – from people like you, who bring diverse perspectives, lived experiences, and fresh ideas.

Join us for an interactive workshop where we’ll explore, sketch, and prototype inclusive solutions for real-world evacuation challenges.

What will we do?

Through role-playing, creative sketching, and guided discussions, we will

  • share experiences – what’s your story? What worked (or didn’t) during a fire drill?
  • walk in others’ shoes – use personas to explore challenges faced by people with different needs and abilities
  • brainstorm tech solutions – imagine how apps, smartwatches, wearables or responsive building systems could guide people more effectively than sirens alone
  • shape the future – your insights will feed directly into ongoing research at Malmö University on inclusive emergency communication

Who should join?

We’re calling on all students and staff at Malmö University – regardless of background or discipline. Whether you study design, technology, social sciences, education, or communication, your perspective is invaluable.

You don’t need technical expertise – just curiosity, empathy, and a willingness to imagine better systems.

Why participate?

Because your voice can help transform how people experience safety. You will

  • contribute to real research with societal impact
  • collaborate with an interdisciplinary community
  • gain new insights into inclusive and human-centered design
  • enjoy a fika while making a difference!
