Funding and support

The scholarship is intended to contribute to travel and accommodation costs for a stay at a UNIC partner institution lasting at least two days (excluding travel days). Funding may be granted for up to two weeks.

The scholarship amount for UNIC Students Engaged in Research corresponds to the Erasmus+ traineeship grant.

  • Daily allowance: SEK 357
  • Travel grant: SEK 5,000

The maximum amount is therefore SEK 10,000 (for a 14-day stay abroad). All participants are covered by Malmö University’s Student UT insurance during their stay.

Eligibility

At the time of application for Students Engaged in Research, you must be an active and registered student at Malmö University. You should be able to present a clear plan for your research stay at a UNIC partner university. You must have secured a host supervisor (an invitation letter is required) and a programme coordinator or responsible teacher who confirms that the stay fits within your study programme.

You cannot combine the UNIC Students Engaged in Research Fund with funding from the Erasmus+ programme.

Time plan

Research stays may take place any time during the academic year, depending on when it fits in with your studies and the host university’s availability. You should submit your application at least one month before the planned start date. Otherwise, you may receive the grant retrospectively. The deadline for applications is the day before the activity begins.

After your stay

After completing your research stay, you must submit a short report about your project. You also need to upload receipts showing your travel and accommodation costs. The report and receipts are required to finalise the scholarship.

Securing a research placement

You are responsible for finding and securing your host as well as developing a plan for your research stay. You may use existing contacts, ask a teacher at Malmö University, explore UNIC networks, or look for opportunities through the UNIC Internships webpage.

The assessment of your application will consider the feasibility of your proposed plan. It is therefore important that you clearly explain your aim, host academic environment and contact and the details of your research activity. Activities may include collaboration with UNIC cities, for example collecting data for a degree project. In that case, you need a local academic contact at the host university.

Your research stay must take place at one of the UNIC partner universities.
