A writing community for international students

Let’s write this thing is a weekly writing group designed specifically for international students at Malmö University who write in English. Whether you're working on essays, reports, your thesis, or any academic text, this group gives you a calm, supportive, and structured space to get it done – together.

Writing in a second language, often far from familiar routines or cultures, can feel isolating. That’s why this group combines focus time with community, helping you develop good writing habits while connecting with others who understand your situation.

Show up at any session. No registration needed.

Why join?

Participants often experience

  • improved focus and dedicated time to move their writing forward
  • a feeling of productivity through structured sessions
  • a sustainable writing routine they can use beyond the group
  • less isolation, more support
  • a sense of belonging to a friendly, international writing community

How each session works

Each weekly session lasts two hours, with 90 minutes of total writing time.

  1. Check‑in: Everyone states their writing goal for the day
  2. Warm‑up: A short, low‑pressure writing exercise to get started
  3. Three focused writing blocks with five‑minute breaks
  4. Wrap‑up: A brief reflection on how it went and what comes next

You work independently, but the shared structure keeps everyone motivated. Sessions are facilitated by a writing teacher or writing mentor from the Writing Centre.

Who can participate?

All international students who write in English – regardless of programme or level – are welcome. Your project can be anything academic: a course assignment, thesis chapter, article, or research notes. The important thing is committing to your writing.
